Ethical Record keeping in the Internet Age (Part 2) - 1.5 CEUs

Friday, June 14, 2019, 12:00pm – 1:30pm Eastern online webinar

Presented by: Dr. Jim Raines, PhD, LCSW

Description and Goals:

Social workers have been keeping records for over a hundred years, but the introduction of the internet age has created new opportunities and challenges for school social workers. The second part of this workshop will cover 3 common ethical questions and legal material about how FERPA and HIPAA relate to each other:

  • Communication – How should records be transmitted to others?
  • Documentation – What or how much information facilitates client services?
  • Destruction – How & when should information be destroyed
  • How do FERPA & HIPAA legal standards interact within a school setting?

The second workshop will have 4 learning goals:

  • School SWs will learn how records can be securely shared.
  • School SWs will learn what and how much to document.
  • School SWs will learn how and when information should be destroyed.
  • School SWs will learn the legal differences between FERPA & HIPAA in schools.

Please note that all webinars are being recorded and will be available even if you are not able to attend during the actual webinar event.
